Depending on the variant of the game, each player must make a bet during the round. A bet is a contribution to the pot and is worth the amount a player agrees to, typically between one and two chips. The cards are usually dealt face-down, with the dealer being the person responsible for distributing them. Each player may discard up to three cards. During the first few rounds, a player can use up to five chips, and in the final round, a player can use ten. Traditionally, a chip’s value is based on its color, with the lowest-value chip being the blue chip. This chip is worth a minimum of 10 whites or 20 reds.
Before the cards are dealt, each player must place a small bet, called the ante. This gives the pot a value right away. If a player chooses to fold, he loses all of his chips in the pot. However, if he wishes to stay in the game, he may check. After he has checked, he is obliged to raise the bet of another player.
At the end of each round, the bets are gathered into a central pot. The player who holds the best hand is the winner. Players who have tied hands divide the pot.
Generally, the maximum limit of poker chips is ten in the final betting interval, but this can vary according to the game’s rules. For instance, a “Dealer’s Choice” session will allow the dealer to determine the number of chips that can be deposited, whereas a “Jackpots” session will require the same dealer to deal again.
